Situations that lead here
Unexplained holes in fabric
Small irregular holes in wool, fur, or other natural fibers often point to larvae feeding activity.
Shed larval skins found
Small bristled skins near closets or storage areas indicate an active larvae population.
Beetles seen near windows
Adult carpet beetles are often first noticed near windowsills before the source is identified.
Stored clothing or rugs affected
Long-stored fabric items are particularly vulnerable to undetected larvae activity.
The general approach taken
Carpet beetle larvae feed on natural fibers like wool, fur, and feathers, often in closets, under furniture, and in stored fabric items that go undisturbed for long periods. Our approach identifies both the adult beetles and the larvae responsible for fabric damage, since treating only one stage rarely resolves the full problem.
Step-by-step process
Closet and storage inspection
The technician checks closets, rugs, and upholstered furniture for larvae and shed skins.
Source identification
Affected fabric items and harborage areas are identified before treatment begins.
Larvae and adult treatment
Treatment addresses both stages, since larvae cause the fabric damage while adults continue the cycle.
Guidance on affected items
Your technician may recommend laundering or discarding heavily affected fabric items.
Written summary provided
Documentation of findings and treated areas is left with you after the visit.
What makes this team's approach different
Treating only visible adult beetles while leaving larvae active in stored fabric is a common reason carpet beetle problems persist, which is why our standard approach addresses both.
